Jordan 6/7 Golden Moment Pack Quick Review

The much anticipated Jordan 6/7 Golden Moment Pack is upon us. I was able to get my hands on this pack last week and it does not disappoint. The quality is spot on, especially on the 6s. The packaging is also a nice touch and features some nice gold accents and the USA flag dust bags are pretty nice too.

I was always more excited for the 7, as I love the contrast of gold on the black, but after seeing these in person the 6s are definitely the better pair in my opinion. The lace color and such reminds me of the gold on the Rabbit 7s, and the gold around the midsole is metallic like on the DMP 6s.

Overall leather quality is nice. It’s not the cheap tumbled stuff that the white/blue Olympic 6s are made of, but a nicer grain leather similar to the Cement 4 release. Here are some low-quality comparison shots (I know they’re terrible, best I have right  now).

Overall a great pack and well worth it. Good luck to all trying to cop.

MUST HAVE Gold Metal Pack 8/18 pics and release info

I said it a few months pack, but the Gold Metal Pack dropping on 8/18 will be a must-have for all Jordan heads. Now that we’re approaching the release date, some more detailed pics are popping up. Seeing new shots, I’m sticking with what I said and the 7s > 6s. The pairs are both sick, and the packaging alone makes this pack a must-have

Some release info is also popping up. Most major chains will have these, and places like nikestore and Eastbay have already confirmed they’ll be dropping these. As with all recent releases, this pack will be super hyped, so make your plans early on how you’re copping.

With Team USA beating France, and on the path towards Olympic gold, this pack couldn’t come at a better time.

Retro Air Jordan 7 “Filbert” / “Natural”, Denim Khaki Pack

Every now and then, Jordan Brand surprises us. They have been releasing a heavy stream of popular, yet predictable retros. Re-releasing iconic colorways seems to be the money-making move for Jordan right now, and the brand hasn’t strayed into many new non-retro colorways or innovative designs. Sure, we’ve seen recent releases like the Cool Grey 12s and Cav 4s, but even those chose somewhat typical colors and materials.

Today, almost out of nowhere, the Jordan official site posted photos of two new upcoming releases. We’ll nickname them the “Filbert” pack since both pairs feature that color. Even so, they bear a strong resemblance to Denim and Khaki 3s we saw sampled a while back.

Air Yeezy vs. Yeezy 2

Everyone’s been all over the Yeezy II, but what abou the Yeezy I? Good condition Air Yeezys can be had for about HALF the price of a Yeezy II. The Yeezy II has un-beatable buzz, but that doesn’t mean it’s the superior Yeezy.

Let’s do a quick comparison of the quality, design, wearability and comfort of each.

Quality: Yeezy I

This is the only category that really has a hands-down winner. The Yeezy I has the BEST quality I have seen from a NIKE shoe in years. Perhaps the best quality of all time. The shoe is durable, the paint is solid, the leather is buttery, the materials are lux, there’s not much better. The Yeezy 2 does have some nice lux touches, the leather is nice, the insoles are awesome, the lace tips, etc. But the Yeezy 2 is a lot more hyped up, and has more bells and whistles (those lace tips, the dust bag, etc.) and isn’t the same quality shoe the 1s are. Many pairs of the IIs are coming with small minor defects, and wearing down pretty fast. (Knock on wood, really hope I don’t jinx myself and have these 1s start to fall apart on me now.)

Design: Tie

It’s a bit absurd to compare the design of two totally different shoes and argue which is superior. They’re DIFFERENT designs. You can’t tell me a Jordan 11 is better than a Jordan 6. It’s all a matter of taste. The same applies to the Yeezys.

The Yeezy I was dominated by a futuristic design, with an emphasis on different materials and clashing qualities. Kanye himself (or maybe Mark Smith, I forget) even said the shoe was designed to resemble a futuristic space boot, and was supposed to be over the top and out of this world.

Cue to the Yeezy II on the other hand and you have a much more modest, simpler design.  The shoe is smaller, and less clunky. Putting them side by side, I was surprised by how much smaler it really is. The sleeker design makes it a bit more wearable with everyday attire, and adds a splash of luxury. It seems like a natural evolution for Kanye, who’s become deeper entrenched in the fashion world.

Wearability: Yeezy II

Going back to the design, the Yeezy II is just a simpler shoe that’s easier to wear. It has subtle flash, and is pretty easy to rock. The Yeezy I dominates your outfit, but the IIs blend in a bit more. But where the IIs fall short is the material and quality makes these harder to keep clean and in pristine shape. There’s already plenty of talk about midsoles cracking, and the ‘scales’ becoming brushed back from dust and air. Yes, the IIs are easier to wear, but make sure you take care of your kicks.

Comfort: Yeezy II

Have you ever slipped these on your foot? It’s like a leather cushion laced with a tempurpedic mattress. It’s the ultimate comfort, with leather insoles that seem to almost arch and conform to your feet. If Kanye ever wants to design slippers, I’ll give him my full support

Glow: Yeezy II

Everyone asks. Yes, the IIs glow better. But to be fair, the originals glow pretty damn good. The Yeezy 1s definitely glow better than the Lebron 9 big bangs and Kobe 7 Galaxys, and are fairly comparable to the KD IV Galaxies. But the 2s, they’re on a whole other level.

Verdict: Make you’re own decisions

I couldn’t tell you which I honestly like better. They’re both different animals, with different qualities. I see myself wearing the 2s more, but still being a bit more WOW’ed by the 1s. In terms of value, I can tell you that I wouldn’t drop $1600 on a pair of 2s when you can get 1s for half that price if you know where to look.

In only 3 years, Kanye took a pretty far departure from his original model. Who know’s where he’ll go with the Yeezy 3. It’s only a matter of time before “Yeezy 3” news and rumors start swirling. Kanye himself tweeted his partnership with Nike “allows” him to design a shoe every 3 years. Maybe I’ll be the first and hype it up with a “Coming in 2015” post soon.

Blake Griffin Galaxy PE Postponed

After post preview shots a few months back, we’ve seen the BG32 Galaxy Hyperdunks pop up on sites like Air-Knight.com and FlightClub.com, with prices on average around $600.

The unofficial drop date was rumored to be today, 6/23. But it appears the release has hit a snag. Blake’s contract with NIKE is in question, and there are rumors swirling that he’ll sign with Under Armor. Again, it’s all rumors at this point, but the contract issue seems to be pretty legit and it’s supposedly keeping the Galaxy’s from dropping. It would be sad to see this release scrapped, and even more sad to see Blake leave the NIKE brand, so keep your fingers crossed that the contract issue gets resolved.

I’ve seen these in person, and they aren’t as impressive as I hoped they’d be. They’ve been dumbed down quite a bit from the PE he wore during the all-star game, but the Galaxy label and glow-in-the dark will keep these pretty popular and sought after. If you REALLY want a pair, the time to pull the trigger is probably now before pairs get even more limited. But with every release, don’t get too desperate, as these might end up releasing after all.

Some Christian Louboutin Inspiration for Yeezy 2?

“Good artists copy, great artists steal.”

Picasso coined that quote, and Steve Jobs co-signed it in several interviews. Now, it looks like Yeezy might have had a little ‘inspiration’ for his Yeezy 2 “dragonscale” design from one of the most celebrated designers in the industry, Christian Louboutin.

Yeezy 2. The Hype and Hysteria of Major Releases, and Who’s to Blame.

This release was debatably the largest since 2009, when the first Yeezy dropped at limited retailers across the country. After a few years of high-profile releases such as the Space Jams, Concords, and Galaxy Foams, you’d think that the sneaker community would have been well-prepared to handle the hottest release in years.

It wasn’t. Not as much as it should have been at least.

The problem (and yes, there is a problem) falls upon several parties. No single entity is to blame, but you can point fingers at the retailers, Nike itself, and yes, most definitely you can blame the customer. Let’s break it down:

Back On

So after a few weeks (months?) of absence, I decided to resurrect this blog. I won’t update it that frequently, and it will be more opinion-pieces and reviews than breaking news (there’s hundreds of blogs out there for news, I’ve found it’s not fun to just do more of the same).

In recent weeks, I’ve picked up a bunch of new sneaker releases, as well as a bunch of apparel purchases. Look for some new posts soon.

Lebron 10 X pricing revealed

How much is too much?

Retailers received their first look at orders for next year, and this gave us our first look at leaked information for the Lebron 10. The basic model is set to retail for $180, and the “+” model is set to retail for $310.

Jump back 3 years ago, and the Nike Lebron 6 was $140. Now, the Lebron 9 retails for $170. That’s a $30, or 21% jump over the past 3 years. Nike, and consumers, must ask themselves “How much more am I willing to pay”. Is a $10 increase every year really fair? Is it worth it? As long as these kicks are in demand, the price will go up, and that seems to be inevitable. But a $310 “+” version might be past the limit of what most sneakerheads are willing to spend.

The plus version will feature brand new Nike + technology that essentially measures almost every metric of the player’s on-court performance. Hopefully, Nike will keep these + models pretty standard and focus on the performance orientated player and NOT release hyped up colorways like a South Beach at this price point.

Keep in mind, this pricing isn’t officially confirmed (yet), but we should receive more news over the next few weeks as retailers prepare for next season’s releases.

New details on Jeremy Lin PE Release

In follow up to the original post regarding a potential Jeremy Lin PE release, we now have what seems total confirmation as well as new images.

The new shots give us a better look at what seems to be the retail edition, complete with “Linsanity” soles and more prominent Knicks coloring. Although Lin is currently “Linjured”, there is no doubt that the general public will be hungry for these shoes and looking for release details. Although historically, a release such as this would most likely go to House of Hoops as an exclusive, the mass market appeal of Jeremy Lin might signal that NIKE will go broader with this distribution.
